Jorrit Bouwmans
Jorrit Bouwmans, director of Don’t Stop Washing the Dishes, holds a Master’s degree in Film Studies from the University of Amsterdam and has since applied his theoretical knowledge to the professional field. He is the writer and director of the surreal horror film Bourgeois Absolutie (2019), which addresses performance pressure and depression among students, and the director of the pilot documentary Harrag (2023), which tells the story of a talented Moroccan triathlete who decides to live undocumented in the Netherlands. Jorrit aims to create films that focus on mental health, human psychology and the search for hope in an absurd world. It is controlled cinema about uncontrollable emotions.
Director Statement
„Don’t Stop Washing the Dishes“ is about a man inexplicably trapped in an apartment, where he is forced to wash the dishes. Slowly he is driven to madness. The film is a supernatural prison thriller, an Orwellian nightmare, and an allegory about mental health and isolation.
