Even The Moon Will Bleed

Rémy Barbe & Stef Meyer

Raised between Lille – Northern France, and Illinois – United States, Stef Meyer is a French-American trained plastic artist and writer/director/editor who dived into experimental cinema and music videos after a degree in visual arts. She pursued her image-crafting career with her first narrative horror short „MANTRA“ (2022).
The film traveled all over the world (Toronto After Dark, Tampere, Gérardmer…) and allowed her to develop a sophomore short, „BIOCIDE“ – a dark, ecological horror tale which will be crafted in summer 2026.
Also raised between Lille and Calais (France), writer/director/editor and founder of the collective „Les Films de la Mouche“, Rémy won the „Grand Prix“ of the Gérardmer short film competition with his end-of-school project „AND THE DEVIL LAUGHS WITH ME“ back in 2018 (Screamfest, Haapsalu, Fantaspoa…).
In 2021, he directed „TREAT“, a surreal, body-horror love drama, which was sacred in many Triple-A festivals such as Gérardmer, Court-Métrange, l’Étrange Festival, Imagine Film Festival, Slash Film Fest, BIFFF and the Lund Fantastik…
„EVEN THE MOON WILL BLEED“ is the result of their first cinematic collaboration, and a graphic love letter to the „Côte d’Opale“, in North of France, where they both spent a lot of time as children.

Director Statement

„Even The Moon Will Bleed“ was shot in Wimereux (France), our common childhood background, and results from our mutual desire to question the nearness of love and death, desire and destruction, or even poetry and murder… And our wish to dive deep into the „grey area“ while pushing the envelope of genre specifications.
It appeared to us that the most original and sincere way to explore this was to blend the genre of Romance with the Serial Killer aesthetic. A bit as if P. T. Anderson’s „Punch Drunk Love“ had spent the night with Bill Lustig’s „Maniac“ but in the Bruno Dumont’s universe (as we shot exactly where Dumont was born and raised).
In the end, we like to see the film as a true contemplative – yet gripping and gloomy – gothic tale, hiding a cruel depiction of modern loneliness.
We sincerely hope you’ll be able to connect with the romantic journey of these two misfits struggling to find a place where their wandering soul could be at peace.
