International Call for Movies 2021

To all of you talented Moviemakers!

Not only you, but the Fright Nights team as well is already sitting on Pinhead’s nails, hoping for an early end to this corona crisis. At this point, long-term planning is not yet possible. But we will do our best to make sure that the Fright-Night-Horroraward can be awarded again this year. We please you to be patient and hope to open the „Call for Movies“ for 2021 in the near future for your wonderful creations.

Hopefully we will be able to give you news in may. But untill then, you can check out, why we would love to have your movie for Fright Nights – the ultimate festival of Angst 2021

 Your advantages:

• Your film will be showcased for horror-psyched audiences on the big screen with state-of-the-art projection and sound technology.

• Your film has the chance to win a “Silver Hand”, which will increase its market value und raise awareness of it.

• The film which is awarded the prize by the jury will be screened in the regular programme of Hollywood Megaplex.

• You will receive three tickets.

Registrations and submissions of the films are possible until 1st September 2019. The earlier you submit your film, the easier it is for us to sift them and plan, so it is beneficial to you too. We have to select more or less which film can be taken into the festival programme and hence in the competition depending on the number of films submitted.

 Submission requirements in detail

The 15th Fright Nights film festival will take place from 2nd to 5th october 2019.

It is now possible to submit shorts and features for both competition and “out of competition”. By filling in and sending the submission form, you accept the following conditions of participation:

Submission fee and deadline:

Fees only apply to submissions for the competition. Contributions for “out of competition” are free of charge.

Submission by 1st September 2019:

• Short films up to 30 minutes: EUR 20

• Feature-length films: EUR 30

The submission will only be completed and valid when the submission fee is paid to the following account:

Important notice:
There is no guarantee that your film will be screened. Paying the submission fee also does not guarantee that the film will be showcased at the Fright Nights festival. The organizers make a selection from all short and feature films submitted which will ultimately be showcased at the festival.

The nominations will be determined by mid September 2018 and the programme will be published on our website. All of the films selected will automatically take part in the competition; no additional fee has to be paid. At that time, the person who submitted the film will be informed about the nomination for the competition and the “out of competition” contributions will be programmed. The screening version needs to be submitted by 01.September.

Format requirements for the screening:
The largest screen of Hollywood Megaplex Gasometer in Pasching has a size of 217 square metres. If the resolution of the film does not comply with these requirements, the film may need to be removed from the programme or taken off the nomination list. Therefore only films are accepted which comply with the following format:

Intellectual property rights
By sending the submission form, the submitter declares that the submitter owns all necessary rights to distribute the film and submit it to the festival. All visual and audio contents of the film must have been created by the submitter himself or the submitter must have obtained the intellectual property right for it. Where there are any doubts, the submitter must show the licenses.

The submitter expressly acknowledges and agrees that the film can be showcased as part of the festival and can be used for PR-related activities linked to the festival. This also includes handing the film over to the members of the jury, using clips for advertising spots and other uses as part of the festival.

Restrictions for publication
The films submitted must not have been commercially showcased before the festival, e.g. an official cinema release and a publication on DVD and Blu-ray. “Private screenings” such as premieres, participations at festivals and sales of DVDs and Blu-rays are hereby excluded.

The Silver Hand will be awarded in the following categories:

• Best Feature Film (with inclusion in the regular programme of Hollywood Megaplex)

• Best Short Film

• Best Actor

• Best Actress

• Trash Award

The award ceremony will take place at the end of the festival. The exact date will be announced as soon as possible.

Important notice:
The prizes will exclusively be awarded to the filmmakers who are present at the prize award ceremony. If the submitter cannot come to the prize award ceremony, the Silver Hand can also be accepted by a representative. If neither the award winner nor a representative can be present at the prize award ceremony, the film will be removed from the competition and the Silver Hand will be awarded to the runner-up.

 Additional services of the Fright Nights film festival

The following additional services are provided for all films showcased at the Fright Nights festival:

Q&A Panel
Selected cast and crew members can answer questions from the audience after the screening of the film. – Only applies to competition contributions.

Promotion material
The submitter can bring promotional material, such as posters and flyers about the submitter’s film and other productions and can be displayed at the spots provided for this in the cinema.

Sales display
DVDs and Blu-rays of the film and merchandising products can be sold at the festival.

These services are included in the submission fee for all films which are screened at the Fright Nights festival 2019. However, these additional services can only be used after prior arrangement. The organizers of the Fright Nights festival reserve the right to withdraw these additional services at short notice.

All filmmakers whose films are showcased at the Fright Night festival get three tickets for this screening free of charge.

The screen which will show the film depends on the number of tickets sold. Screens with capacities of between 100 and 500 seats and the largest screen in Austria are available. Out-of-competition contributions will probably be screened in the studio.

 How is the submission made in practice?

Explanatory annotation: The screener for the submission is not the same as the screening format for public performance. You will be informed in September whether or not your film has been nominated or accepted for the programme and whether you need to provide a screening format (in the DCP-format on hard drive or USB stick) by 1st September.
